So this pattern was really last minute. To be fair, it wasn’t my fault; the fingerless glove pattern decided just as I was finishing it that it wanted to be a cowl instead and I didn’t have the time (or at that point, the inclination) to change it all up.
Soooo…. I decided to make a Iced Drink Cozy (with handles) because who doesn’t love handles? This was actually a really fun and fast knit mostly because I was speed knitting so that I could finish it in time to rush up to the book store and get a drink to model it.
You wouldn’t believe the strange looks you get from the baristas when you rush in at closing time, order a fancy drink and upon receiving it, proceed to dress the cup.
Before I blather on more, here’s the pattern!
Materials: 20-30 yards DK weight Yarn ( I used what I had left from my Sweethearts Scarf)
Size 4 dpns (set of 4)
Gauge: 8 1/2 stitches/9 rows in K1P1 ribbing unstretched
This Pattern makes holders for small (medium, large) drinks -i.e. Starbucks or Seattle’s Best, not Dunkin’ Donuts- their drink sizes are ridiculous.
Cup Holder:
Cast on 36 (42, 48)stitches
Move onto 3 dpns with 12 (14,16)stitches on each (if using 2 circulars or magic loop put 18( 21,24)stitches on each side)
Work in K1 P1 ribbing for 3(3 1/2, 4) inches- the tube is very stretchy so don’t worry if it looks way too small to hold a cup.
Bind off loosely.
Cup Handle (make 2):
Cast on 4 stitches leaving long tail
Work I-cord for 3(3 1/2, 4) inches, bind off leaving long tail
Finishing:
Using tails sew I-cord handles to the cup holder right next to each other. The double handle gives the holder stability so you can actually pick the cup up by the handles.

I don’t knit well yet or drink coffee but this is cute. My grandfather goes out and gets coffee all the time so I might make it for him in his colors. Thanks for posting!!! And yep…I like handles on my things to. lol.

My Mom, who was NOT friends with fiber and needles, period, “made” cozies for cold cups in the summertime, too. Her quick and easy method: cut the tops off of socks that were headed for the rag bag & use them on the cups. Not as nice-looking, but they did the job.
